Welcome to the Historic Mayfield Ranch

The Mayfield Ranch welcomes visitors for camping and day visits. Snowbirds are also welcome! We have miles of hiking trails and scenic vistas with many varieties of birds, butterflies, reptiles and amphibians to be seen. Domestic animals include horses, long-horn cattle, sheep and goats. The most visible wildlife includes deer, wild turkeys and mountain goats.

Visitors are welcome to search for arrowheads, and other archeological artifacts. We encourage digging the Indian mounds and scavenging for gems and minerals. Our trails are also suitable for ATVs and mountain bikes. Devils River activities include fishing, kayaking, river tubing and swimming. Star watching is especially enjoyable in this remote and romantic location.

There are many worthwhile sites an hour or more from the ranch. They include the Amistad National Recreation Area (where the Rio Grande, Pecos and Devils River all converge,) the Seminole Canyon with its famous prehistoric Indian pictographs, Judge Roy Bean’s famous town of Langtry, the Mexican border town of Ciudad Acuna, Del Rio and its historic Val Verde Winery, Fort Clark in Brackettville, the Devil’s Sink Whole in Rocksprings and the Sonora Caverns located on another Mayfield Ranch. Many of the small towns near the ranch have appealing antique and country stores, and each town has other local activities of interest.

Contact us for booking and questions.

Please be advised that visitors are required to take out all that they bring in. There are presently no structures nor bathrooms, and the closest store and hospital are 40 miles away. Plans are being made to reopen the famed Mayfield Country Store and provide electricity for long-term camping. Because there is an AT&T cell phone tower on the ranch most cell phones do work on the ranch as does wireless internet.
